Q: How do I make a request for subsidiary rights?

A: To create a foreign rights request, please login or create a new account and fill out the request form. From the Your Account area, you can track current and pending rights requests.

Q: I want a review copy of a book. How do I get one?

A: You can request a review copy by completing the
Request Form on this site or by faxing or e-mailing your request to this address:

St. Anthony Messenger Press
Subsidiary Rights Desk
28 W. Liberty St.
Cincinnati, OH 45202

E-mail: rights@americancatholic.org
Fax your request on official letterhead to: (513) 241-0399 Attention: Subsidiary Rights Desk

Q: How do I buy translation or foreign rights to a book?

A: If you are a publisher, complete the
Request Form on this site and provide the required information about title, language, territory, etc. Generally, St. Anthony Messenger Press and Servant Books would require a monetary offer for rights, including an advance payment of royalties. In addition, we would want to know:
  • Publisher name
  • Publisher address and contact info
  • Contact person
  • Title(s) you are interested in
  • Language
  • Distribution territory
  • Estimate print run
  • Estimated price
  • Medium (print, electronic, Web, audio)

Q: I have never worked with you. Do I need to register as a new publisher?

A: Yes, we encourage you to tell us about your company or organization by completing the New Publisher
Registration Form on this site. This form helps us to know you better and asks you for business references.

Q: I am not affiliated with a publisher or organization, but I want to translate one of your books. What do I need to do?

A: If you are an individual seeking translation rights, you must have the backing or sponsorship of a book publishing house or other corporation that can defend the copyright, file tax papers, promote the title properly and ensure accurate translation of the book. A publisher or sponsoring organization can write to us on your behalf to request translation rights.

Q: I am a translator who wants to translate one of your books. What should I do?

A: The same advice as outlined above applies to you. If you already know a publisher who wants to publish a translation, tell that publisher to contact St. Anthony Messenger Press. That publisher must negotiate for rights, sign a contract and fulfill the terms of the contract, and make a separate agreement with you to translate the book.

Q: I want to purchase a foreign edition of one of your books. How do I buy one?

A: If you contact us, we can tell you if the book is available in the language you want. We also can tell you who publishes that foreign edition and provide contact information.

Q: I am interested in publishing or translating one of your out-of-print books. What should I do?

A: Generally when a book goes out of print, the rights revert to the copyright holder, most often the author or his/her heirs or agent. We would need to know the name of the book and the author, and then we can determine who owns the rights and help you locate the copyright holder. It is not always possible, however, to locate the copyright holder after a book goes out of print.
